OVERVIEW:

Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) is an operational site supporting U.S. Space Force operations. CCAFS is a subordinate unit to Patrick Space Force Base.  CCSFS is the primary launch site for the United States Eastern Range.  CCSFS has four active launch pads.

Also located at CCSFS is a 10,000-foot runway.  The runway is located close to the launch complexes for ease of access by military airlift aircraft.  Using this runway, large cargo payloads can be unloaded (or uploaded) in support of launch operations at Cape Canaveral.

Cape Canaveral SFS is located on
Florida's central Atlantic coastline.

Detachment 1 (Det 1) is located at  CCSFS.  Det 1 is responsible for managing operations at CCSFS.  Det 1 activities are large and diverse.  Some of these activities include overseeing space launch government contracts with private industry. The estimated value of these government contracts are in excess of $100 million dollars. Det 1 manages the maintenance, operations, and security of Cape Canaveral's facilities. Det 1 is responsible for the environmental protection of the Cape itself which encompasses over 16, 000 acres.

CCSFS's Commander (and his/her staff) oversee a vast array of government launch support facilities and equipment.  This includes over 1500 facilities, nearly 5 million square feet of office space, and a work force that exceeds 10,000 people.  An important collateral duty of the CCSFS's workforce is support of Disaster Response Forces for all space launches and support activities.
