OVERVIEW: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is home of the 4th Fighter Wing (4th FW), one of the Air Force's largest fighter wings. The 4th FW is the host wing for Seymour Johnson AFB. The wing has nearly 6,000 military and federal civil service personnel. The 4th FW flies and maintains the F-15E Strike Eagle jet aircraft. The F-15E Strike Eagle is a multi-role, all-weather aircraft. The 4th FW flies more than 15,000 sorties and over 24,000 hours in a typical year. Another major operational Air Force unit at Seymour Johnson AFB is the 916th Air Refueling Wing (916th ARW). The 916th ARW is an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) unit that flies the KC-135R air refueling aircraft. Also located at Seymour Johnson AFB is the 414th Fighter Group (414th FG). The 414th FG is an Air Force Reserve associate unit that flies the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft. |
