Schriever AFB is located about 10 miles
east of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  

The 50th Space Wing operates and supports Department of Defense (DoD) satellite programs: These programs includes the Global Positioning System, Defense Satellite Communications System, Wideband Global SATCOM, Milstar, Defense Meteorological Satellite Program, Space Based Space Surveillance, Operationally Responsive Space-1, Advanced Extremely High Frequency and the worldwide Air Force Satellite Control Network.

The 50th Space Wing operates satellite operation centers at Schriever AFB along with other remote satellite tracking stations / command and control facilities located across the globe. The 50th Space Wing monitors DoD satellites during launch and operate them while in orbit. The 50th Space Wing is also responsible for monitoring and operating over 150 DoD satellites. In addition, the 50th Space Wing supports 16 DoD and Air Force tenant units with a combined workforce of over 8,100 personnel.

Schriever AFB has an annual economic impact of over $1.2 billion to the local Colorado Springs area. Base contracting support and procurement administration is provided by the 50th Contracting Squadron (50th CONS).
