OVERVIEW:  

Naval Station (NS) Norfolk is the world's largest naval base.  It is home to  75 naval ships and 134 military aircraft.  NS Norfolk has a total of 14 ship piers and 11 aircraft hangars. NS Norfolk's airfields supports an average of 275 daily military flights.

NS Norfolk is home to United States Fleet Forces Command (USFLTFORCOM).  USFLTFORCOM trains, sustains, and provides U.S. Naval forces for deployment to the U.S. Unified Command Combatant Commands worldwide. 

NS Norfolk is also the home to the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the Atlantic Fleet Logistics Center.  This Center manages logistics supply support destined to the European, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern U.S. Naval operations.  NAVSUP's contracting offices follow a "decentralized acquisition structure."  This means that all of NAVSUP's contracts for supplies and services are awarded at its field activities.

River meets the Chesapeake Bay. 

Headquarters Military Sealift Command (MSC) is located at NS Norfolk.  MSC operates, manages, and sustains the U.S. Navy's ocean transportation network. MSC operates 110 transportation and cargo ships daily worldwide.  MSC depends heavily upon small businesses to support its worldwide operations.  In an average year, MSC awards approximately $600 million in contracts to small businesses.
