OVERVIEW:

NAS Meridian's primary mission is to train Navy and Marine Corps personnel in aviation and related aviation support skills. NAS Meridian is home to Training Air Wing One (TW-1), Training Squadron 7, Training Squadron 9, the Naval Technical Training Center, and Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One. NAS Meridian is also home to the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy.

Training Air Wing One conducts tactical jet pilot training for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. TW-1 produces 50% of the Navy's jet pilots each year. The T-45 Goshawk jet trainer aircraft is used by TW-1 to train pilots.  Training Air Wing One also trains allied international military pilots.

NAS Meridian has over 2,000 active duty military personnel on station. There are over 4,000 military dependents, military reservists, and federal civilians at NAS Meridian. NAS Meridian occupies more than 8,000 acres. There is an additional 4,000 acres at Joe Williams Field and facility SEARAY (annex facilities of NAS Meridian).

NAS Meridian is located 15 northeast of Meridian,
Mississippi (about 10 miles from the Alabama /
Mississippi border.)  

Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One conducts “A” School training for Marines in four military skill specialties: Marine Aviation Operations Specialist Course, Marine Aviation Supply Specialist Course, Aviation Maintenance Administration Specialist Course, and IMRL Asset Managers System. MATSS-1 also provides administrative support for Marine instructor pilots and students attending flight school with Training Air Wing One. 

Naval Technical Training Center (NTTC) Meridian serves as the Navy's primary training facility for enlisted administrative and supply class "A" personnel.  The NTTC trains enlisted naval specialties to include: Ship's Serviceman, Logistics Specialist, Yeoman, Personnel Specialist, and Aviation Maintenance Administration. NTTC conducts advanced training in the Flag Officer Writer skills.  NTTC also conducts Aviation Maintenance Administrationman (AZ) School for both Marines and Sailors. Approximately 5,000 Marines and Sailors attend NTTC schools each year. 

At NAS Meridian is a new Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) created to support and train Naval Reserve personnel.  The NOSC at NAS Meridian is home to seven Naval Reserve units. In the NOSC, Naval Reserve sailors receive classroom instruction.  

At NAS Meridian is the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy (RCTA). The RCTA's mission is to conduct skill training for civil law enforcement personnel.  The RCTA provides nearly 40 different counterdrug courses to include: “street-level” and "case-making techniques."  RCTA is federally funded, through the Department of Defense (DoD).
