Military units and organizations charged with the duty or maintaining, repairing, and modifying defense systems require an extensive array of products, equipment, and services from private industry.  These products and services are needed in order to keep defense weapon systems and support systems fully mission capable.  Often commercial products and services are used to augment the limited resources of military units and defense organizations. Defense systems maintenance requirements fall into three primary categories:

  1. Systems Maintenance (ships, vehicles, aircraft, weapon systems, support equipment, etc.)
  2. Logistics Support (parts, tools, fuels, chemicals, supplies, transportation, supply chain management, etc.) 
  3. Facilities Support (civil engineering, utilities, security, etc.)
