OVERVIEW: 

The 56th Fighter Wing is the host unit for Luke AFB. It is the world's largest fighter wing. The 56th Fighter Wing is an active-duty F-16 training units and a subordinate unit to Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The 56th Fighter Wing flies and maintains the F-35A Lightning II and F-16 Falcon jet fighters. Also located at Luke AFB is the 944th Fighter Wing, an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) unit. The 944th Fighter Wing trains F-16, F-15E, and A-10 pilots for the active duty U.S. Air Force, the Air Force Reserve, the Air National Guard, and allied international military partners. 

There are about 3,500 military members serving at Luke AFB. Each year, the training units at Luke AFB train and graduate over 280 pilots and approximately 350 aircraft maintenance technicians. Supporting the fighter training programs at Luke AFB are the nearby Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field and the Barry M. Goldwater Range in the Sonoran desert.
