OVERVIEW: 

Los Angeles AFB is home to the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). The SMC is responsible for acquiring and developing military space systems such as: the Global Positioning System, military satellite communications, defense meteorological satellites, space launch and range systems, satellite control networks, space based infrared systems and space situational awareness capabilities. SMC has more than 5,000 employees nationwide and an annual budget exceeding $6 billion.

The 61st Air Base Group (ABG) is the host unit for Los Angeles AFB. The 61st ABG provides the personnel and military units at Los Angeles AFB with medical, civil engineering, communications, chaplain, security, logistics, personnel, readiness, and quality-of-life services.

    Small Business and Base Contracting Information: 
    The Space and Missile Systems Center has more than a $1.8 billion impact on the economy of the Los Angeles area each year. Los Angeles AFB directly employs approximately 6,296 individuals (military, civilians, and defense contractors.) To sustain its operations and support activities, the Space and Missile Systems Center's contracting office at Los Angeles AFB procures products, services, and materiel from private industry. A significant portion of these contracts are set aside for small businesses. There are also numerous opportunities for small businesses to serve as vendors, product suppliers, and subcontractors to prime government contractors supporting Space and Missile Systems Center.
