OVERVIEW:  Grissom ARB is home to the 434th Air Refueling Wing (ARW). The 434th ARW is Air Force Reserve Command's largest KC-135R Stratotanker unit. The 434th ARW has approximately 1,900 military, civilian and contractor personnel. The 434th ARW has two flying squadrons. There are a total of 16 KC-135R aircraft assigned to Grissom ARB. The 434th ARW supports both strategic tanker missions and conventional tanker missions.  Also located at Grissom ARB is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve communications unit and several U.S. Army Reserve units. Grissom ARB is named in honor of astronaut Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom whose home state was Indiana. The annual economic impact of Grissom ARB is estimated at $130 million.

Grissom ARB is located in central Indiana (about 60 miles north of Indianapolis).
