OVERVIEW: Eglin Air Force Base (AFB) is one of the Department of Defense's (DoD) "mega" bases. Eglin AFB has a rapidly growing base population with approximately 38,000 personnel (includes military personnel, family members, civilian personnel, and contractor personnel.) Eglin AFB is the largest Air Force base in size. It covers more than 463,000 acres. Eglin's annual contracting budget exceeds $125 million. A significant portion of these contracts are set-aside for small businesses. The host unit at Eglin is the 96th Test Wing. This wing conducts testing and evaluation of Air Force and other military services air delivered weapons, avionics, and on-board guidance systems. |
