OVERVIEW: 

Barksdale AFB is home to Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), Eighth Air Force (8th AF), the 2nd Bomb Wing (2nd BW), and the 307th Bomb Wing (307th BW). Barksdale AFB has approximately 11,400 military and civilian personnel, 6,300 family members, and 25,000 military retirees (living in the local area).  

Air Force Global Strike Command is an Air Force major command with its headquarters located at Barksdale AFB. AFGSC maintains and operates Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) wings, B-52 bomber wings, B-1 bomber wings, and a B-2 bomber wing. These missile and bomber wings are located at Air Force bases across the United States. There are approximately 31,000 military and civilian personnel assigned to AFGSC. 

Eighth Air Force is also headquartered at Barksdale AFB. Eighth Air Force is a component of Air Force Global Strike Command. Eighth Air Force provides leadership and resources to its assigned Air Force bomber and missile wings. Eighth Air Force has over 16,000 active-duty, Air National Guard and Reserve military personnel who operate and maintain strategic bombers and intercontinental missile (ICBM) sites located across the United States.

Barksdale AFB is located near 
Shreveport (northwest Louisiana). 

The 2nd Bomb Wing is a strategic bomb wing with three squadrons of B-52H Stratofortress bombers.  This bomb wing has three operational squadrons; the 11th Bomb Squadron (training squadron), the 20th Bomb Squadron, and the 96th Bomb Squadron. The 2nd Bomb Wing is the Air Force's largest bomb wing. The 2nd Bomb Wing has about 8,500 active-duty military, reserve military, and civilian personnel. The 2nd Bomb Wing has 26 B-52 bombers assigned to it.    

The 307th Bomb Wing flies and maintains the B-52H Stratofortress. The 307th BW is located at Barksdale AFB. The 307th Bomb Wing has approximately 1,400 Air Force Reserve personnel. There are two squadrons in the 307th Bomb Wing, the 93rd Bomb Wing (trains B-52 aircrews) and the 343rd Bomb Squadron (reserve associate unit who works with the active duty 2nd Bomb Wing).

Small Business and Base Contracting Information: 
To sustain its operations and support activities, the base contracting office at Barksdale AFB procures products, services, and materiel from private industry. The 2nd Contracting Squadron (2 CONS) at Barksdale AFB awards and administers government contracts.  A significant portion of these contracts are set aside for small businesses. There are also numerous opportunities for small businesses to support Barksdale AFB as vendors, product suppliers, and subcontractors to prime government contractors supporting Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command, Eighth Air Force, the 2nd Bomb Wing, and the 307th Bomb Wing.
