It has more than 160 major facilities.  An average of 15 nuclear submarines are based at SUBASE New London. The base has 11 submarine piers (9 of which are nuclear submarine - SSN rated).

SUBASE New London is home to over 70 Naval and DoD tenant commands and support activities. SUBASE New London employs more than 9,500 active duty, reserve and civilian personnel. SUBASE New London provides Base Operations Support (BOS) for operational Naval forces, shore support units, and DoD tenants.
